Wilmer Hutchins Area Schools

The 2008 bond program is underway. In the first phase, three schools are of interest to constituents in the Wilmer-Hutchins area; the high school, middle school, elementary school, and the sports stadium.

The Wilmer-Hutchins High School will receive renovations totaling more than $20 million. The Kennedy-Curry Middle School will receive a drastic make-over, also totaling more than $20 million. The new Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School will be built at a cost of about $14 million. Additionally, the Wilmer-Hutchins Sports stadium will receive a $1.7 million renovation.

The schools will open in August 2011. Wilmer-Hutchins area students can then stop taking long bus rides to get a quality education. They can stay near their neighborhoods.

I look forward to having even greater parent and community involvement when the schools open. I challenge the Wilmer-Hutchins alumni to start a scholarship fund to help graduating students from the high school go to college.

I appreciate the support given by the Wilmer-Hutchins communities to the Dallas ISD. Continue to support our students as they achieve academic success. I encourage you to serve as mentors and tutors in the various District 5 schools.
